Is Justin Bieber Left-Handed?

Publish date: 2024-06-24

This world-famous celebrity successfully made the transition from being a teen pop star to an R&B artist while keeping his large and lively fan base. It’s natural to be curious about the little things about a star’s personality, so is Justin Bieber left-handed?

Justin Bieber is left-handed. He showed his preference for his left hand from an early age, and is exclusively left-handed, as he writes, plays sports, and plays instruments left-handed.

Read more below to find out about Bieber’s left-handedness as well as other celebrities who are also left-handed.

Bieber the Southpaw

Justin Bieber has shown a preference for his left-hand throughout his life, making him a natural lefthander or southpaw. He learned to write and play both sports and instruments left-handed.

Most left-handed people learn to play instruments right-handed, particularly the guitar since left-handed guitars are much rarer than right-handed ones. Bieber, though, didn’t have the same experience with the guitar.

“At eight I started to play the guitar. Basically when I started playing the guitar, I picked up a right-handed guitar. ‘Cause that was all… my mom had a right-handed guitar in the house. And I picked it up and I picked it up left-handed,” he began in an interview on Nightline.

“My mom would switch it the other way. And I would switch it right back to the other way and try to play… It was difficult because it’s backwards,” he explained. This just goes to show how strong Bieber’s preference was for his left hand since more ambidextrous people can learn how to play some instruments on either side.

“My mom, I think it was for my birthday, she bought me a left-handed guitar. And so ever since I was young I learned on a left-handed guitar.”

There have been many examples like this one showing off Bieber’s left-handedness, such as tweets like this one in which he accepts one of his many awards with his left hand, and this one in which he signs autographs left-handed.

Left-Handed Celebrities

While left-handed people make up just ten percent of the population of the world, many world-famous people are lefties. This goes along with the belief that left-handed people are more creative than right-handed people.

Since the majority of people have a dominant right hand, many tools, most equipment, and most other everyday items are specifically designed for right-handed people. This requires left-handed people to think outside of the box and live in a way that can be more unnatural for them, which fosters their creativity.

Jennifer Lawrence, the star of the Hunger Games movie adaptations as well as other blockbuster movies like the X-Men series and Silver Linings Playbook, is a left-handed actress. Lawrence, born in 1990, has been a successful actress since 2006, having started acting when she was 16 years old.

One of the most popular actresses of the 1970s and 1980s, and now in her seventies, Diane Keaton is another famous leftie. Her career spans from the late 1960s until now, and she’s still going strong.

Brad Pitt is also left-handed and is one of the most famous actors and film producers in the United States as well as worldwide. For his work, he’s earned two Academy Awards, two British Academy Film Awards, and three Golden Globe Awards.

Another left-handed actor who started his career in theater before moving to the screen is Hugh Jackman. Known for being the actor with the longest career as a Marvel live-action superhero, Jackman reached huge success playing Wolverine in the X-Men series as well as his other roles in hit films.

Scarlett Johansson is another beloved actress who is also left-handed. She too has had a long career in Marvel movies in playing Black Widow, and became an actress when she was only 10 years old.
