Nadhmi Auchi is a British Iraqi businessman who has a net worth of $2.3 billion dollars. Born June 11, 1937 in Baghdad, Iraq, Nadhmi Auchi is the founding president of the Anglo Arab Organisation (AAO) and the founder and chairman of General Mediterranean Holding (GMH), a conglomerate of 120 companies worldwide. Auchi graduated with a degree in Economics and Political Science from Al-Mustansiriya University, Baghdad in 1967. He founded GMH in 1979 in Luxembourg. Auchi has been the president of AAO (a private non-profit promoting the integration of British Arabs into mainstream British society while retaining their identity) since its formation in 2002. He was made Officer of the Order of the Republic in 1996 and awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of Independence in 2002.
Among other awards, he received the Freedom of the City of London award in 2013. Unfortunately, his career was not without its black marks. In 2003, Auchi was convicted of fraud for his involvement in a $504 million corruption scandal which centered around French oil company Elf Aquitaine. The scandal was described as "the biggest political and corporate sleaze scandal to hit a western democracy since the second world war". Auchi was fined almost $3 million and given a suspended jail sentence.
