"The Huntsman" Posters Give Fans A First Look at New Characters
Newly released individual character posters from the upcoming film The Huntsman, a sequel to the 2012 film Snow White and the Huntsman (with both Kristen Stewart’s Snow White and the film’s original director, Rupert Sanders, dropped from the sequel after their no-longer secret affair), have been released by the stars on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. The arrival of some new characters, as well as announcing the film’s new title, has also been teased.
Ice queens, ice castles, and ice battles are clearly all the rage right now, and will feature heavily in the sequel, which has been announced as having the title The Huntsman: Winter’s War.
In the posters, we see Chris Hemsworth’s titular huntsman and Charlize Theron’s Evil Queen Ravenna in all their glory, the only two returning characters to be granted a poster! Their posters see Ravenna in a rather fashionable mesh dress (Charlize can make anything look glamorous), with one of her ravens flying from her hands, whilst Hemsworth’s Huntsman Eric is seen wielding dual axes.
To accompany the posters of the two main returning stars comes two posters for the Sequels new stars, actresses Jessica Chastain and Emily Blunt, two of Hollywood’s most talented and beautiful actresses.
Chastain has been revealed as playing the warrior Sara, shown by her poster garbed all in leather and with two very interesting looking blades that look kind of like antlers, whereas Blunt will portray the Ice Queen! No, not that one…we don’t expect this one will do much singing at all, and this one is called Freya!
Just like Frozen’s Ice Queen Elsa, Emily Blunt’s character is in a self-imposed exile in a far off ice palace during the film, raising an army of evil lead by Eric and Sara, whose love she forbids. Though she forbids it, love of course triumphs. In her anger, Freya returns to the kingdom from the first movie and, with the help of her sister, Charlize Theron’s Ravenna, begins to inflict terror over the land, and only Eric and Sarah can stop them.
Sam Claflin will return to the film, as well as Nick Frost, with British actors Sheridan Smith and Colin Morgan, both best known for their TV shows, joining the cast as well.
The original film helped kickstart the trend for darker, live action remakes of famous fairytales that has since lead to adaptations of Jack and the Beanstalk and Maleficent, and is so far the only major one to have a sequel, though a Maleficent one is in the works too!
The film is scheduled for release in 2016 and if the posters and plot line are anything to go by, it sounds like it’ll still be amazing even without Snow White in this one!
